Northwood 1st Team Soccer Win 4-2 vs Hilton

Northwood continued with their great start to the season with a very good 4-2 victory over Hilton. The early stages of the game were very even with both sides pressing for the opening goal . After 17 minutes Northwood forced a corner which was saved by the Hilton keeper. Sibusiso Khumalo latched onto the rebound and steered the ball into the right hand corner giving Northwood a well deserved 1-0 lead.

Northwood did not relax and were soon back on the attack. Hilton were having to defend as Northwood continued to attack and were rewarded with another goal from the boot of Jordan Edy. Northwood held their 2-0 lead until half time.

Straight after the restart Hilton were on the scoreboard with a well taken goal from their No 10. This spurred Northwood back into action and they were rewarded with another goal from Damian McCallum.  Northwood continued to press on and soon had the ball in the net with a well taken goal by Naseem Domingo. Hilton never gave up and soon had the ball in the Northwood net. With 10 minutes to go and the score line 4-2, both sides played competitive football. Neither side scored again and Northwood won a very entertaining game 4-2.

Northwood Continues to Excel with SA Representatives

Northwood continues to produce top class sportsmen with a few of our boys recently selected to represent South Africa in their various sporting disciplines. On the hockey front, after producing 24 KZN Coastal representatives, 2 of our players were selected to represent South Africa. For the second consecutive year Taine Bird was selected to represent the South African u16 Hockey Team as goal keeper while Tyrone Stanley was selected for the South African u17 Hockey Team. In the water, and after helping Northwood secure their third straight KZN Tag Team Surfing Championship, matric learner Bevan Willis was selected to represent South Africa at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship to be held in Azores, Portugal in September while Matthew Bedderson was selected to represent the South African u17A Water Polo team earlier on in the year. And then following the footsteps of Ngoni Chidoma, our 2014 SA Schools loose head prop, Gugu Nelani was selected to represent the South African Schools “A” Rugby Team in the same position.  We congratulate them on these fine achievements as well as the coaches and staff involved in producing these top class athletes.  Proudly Northwood!!!

Northwood 1st Team Soccer Win Hard-Fought Victory vs Kearsney

Northwood continued on the good form they worked hard for during the DHS 150th Festival ,with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Kearsney.

Play swung from end to end but both defences were outstanding with neither goalkeeper having to do much work. Play was enterprising in the midfield but it broke down when both teams pushed for goal.

The game reached half time with the score at 0-0 in what was a very entertaining game. Score at half time was a true reflection of the game, with neither side able to dominate.

The second half was a very scrappy affair with play deteriorating and no threatening shots coming close to the goal. With 3 minutes remaining Northwood forced a corner and a great header from S Gininda put Northwood into the lead. On the run of play Northwood deserved their victory but credit to Kearsney for putting on such a fighting display.
