Northwood 1st Team Hockey end Season on a High Note vs St Charles

Saturday 4th June was a sad, but exciting day for Northwood hockey as it marked the end of the outdoor hockey season for 2016, with the final fixtures vs St Charles.

The 1st team game kicked off at 10:15 with very clear intention of what they had install for St Charles.Josh Cowell got on the score board early, ending up scoring a hat-trick in his last game for Northwood high School.Cody Van Bremen, Slater Capel, Tyrone Stanley and Fuse Ngcobo all scored as well, with some exciting team goals.

A number of Matrics played their last games for the school on Saturday and couldn’t have ended off on a better note, winning 7-2.

All the boys played incredibly well and I’d like to thank them for the season, and good luck for the exams ahead.

Liam Mcilroy (VC), Tristan Baird, Ryan Whitehurst, Bradley Mcnally, Scott Bowmen, Shaheid Carrim, Josh Cowell (VC), Cody Van Bremen (C)

Northwood 1st XV too Strong for St Charles

Northwood hosted St Charles on Saturday on a windy afternoon. Northwood won the toss and elected to play into a strong South Westerly wind.

The ball in hand approach soon proved effective, with Northwood dominating the collisions and gain line and scoring 2 nice tries. A few missed opportunities by Northwood kept St Charles in the game before a defensive lapse in the midfield, and an interception just before half time saw St Charles turn at the half, leading 14-12 despite Northwood being the dominant team.

Turning with the wind now at their backs Northwood used the conditions to their advantage and dominated territory.

Some solid defense saw the Northwood team keep St Charles scoreless in the second half while a penalty and a try in the corner saw Northwood home 22-14. Congratulations to the Northwood team!
