Northwood’s Director of Cricket Brings International Team to Victory
Recently Mr Andrew Shedlock, our Director of Cricket had the opportunity to go to Dubai and coach the Gemini Arabians that were competing in the Masters Championship League. The tournament ran over 3 weeks and players making up the team were iconic cricketers from around the world. Some big names making up the Gemini Arabians include Virender Sehwag, Brad Hodge, Justin Kemp, Shivnarin Chandrapaul, Muttiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakara.
The Gemini Arabians went through the entire tournament without loss, beating the Leo Lions in the final by 16 runs. Congratulations Mr Shedlock on your team’s victory. The lessons learnt by spending time amongst those great players will be of tremendous value to our Northwood Cricketers.
Northwood 1st Team Cricket Take Win vs St Charles
Northwood lost the toss and St Charles decided to bat first. Northwood used the overcast conditions well and had St Charles 34/4 with the opening bowlers taking a wicket each with tight accurate bowling. St Charles worked hard and Brautistith (47) and Philpot (50) managed to get St Charles to a total of 177/8 after 60 overs in a time game.
Northwood had 50 overs to try and achieve the total . Slater Capell and Alvin Chiradza gave Northwood a great start with a 74 run opening partnership. Slater Capell was first out for 31 . Northwood then struggled to get the scoreboard ticking with some tight bowling from St Charles. Northwood lost 2 further quick wickets putting the game in the balance. When Chiradza was dismissed for a well-played 70 Northwood needed 5 runs an over to win the game. Andile Mokongane (16) and Jordan Edy (30) batted brilliantly to lead Northwood to a 6 wicket win.
