Northwood School Counselling Department
At Northwood School we prioritise the emotional and psychological well-being of all our boys. We understand that every student is unique, and we take a personalized approach to each boy’s individual needs. Our two full-time onsite school counsellors work closely with students to create a safe and confidential space for open and honest communication. We also collaborate with parents, teachers, and other school staff to support students in achieving their academic and personal goals.
We believe that a strong support system is essential for student success and work tirelessly to provide students with the tools they need to thrive.
The Chat
We are fortunate to have Mrs Herselman, founder of The Chat, as part of our Life Orientation Programme. Our grade 8 and 9 boys follow a LO Curriculum specifically designed to teach values vs rules, with accurate information about teenage development, sex, identity, social media, and pornography shared in an approachable and mindful manner. Our goal is to equip the boys in our care with the knowledge needed to make good choices in an ever changing and often challenging world.
Northwood Sports Medical Centre
Our Sports Medical Centre is a multi-disciplinary medical practice located on our lower campus, providing medical services to the students, families and Northwood Durban Community.

The Fitness Factory Gym
The Fitness Factory is a fully equipped, privately owned gymnasium located on our Upper Campus adjacent to our Aquatic Centre. Offering a convenient and accessible facility for our day boys and boarders, the gym is a welcome addition to our approach to promoting fitness and health within the culture of our school.
