Social Responsibility

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things

At the heart of our ethos is a sense of community. We have been referred to as the beating heart of Durban North, our legacy of 74 years having grown roots deep within the generations of our neighbourhood.  While we are fortunate to showcase our world-class facilities and educational excellence, we are mindful of our responsibility to “pay it forward” with various school led initiatives such as The Hope Project, Goals for Lives, Drinkerbell, and our Northwood Feeding Scheme to name but a few – bringing much needed assistance to those less fortunate or in need of support. In turn, as custodians of our proud Northwood legacy, we offer Old Boys, corporates and individuals various avenues to help support these Northwood driven endeavours within our community.

Some of our recent projects include:

Drinkerbelle Partnership in support of the fight against Gender Based Violence

Our school was honoured to present a cheque of R9400 to Drinkerbell as part of our 2022 Women’s Month campaign, where our boys raised funds towards assisting the victims of drink spiking and gender based violence. Our RCL were integral in spearheading this initiative while raising awareness amongst our boys.

The Hope Project – Mount Royal Secondary School partnership

With tremendous support from our parents, boys, staff, along with assistance from various NPO’s and friends of Northwood we have been able to renovate the school library, supply computers and learning materials.  In addition we have replaced kitchen equipment with the assistance of Hollywood Bets, and re-levelled their sports field with the support of the SA Rugby Legends association.  Further facilities repairs and upgrades include replacing ceiling boards, broken windows and painting of classrooms. Our Natural Science department initiated and implemented a water-wise kitchen garden along with staff of Mount Royal to contribute towards their feeding scheme in a sustainable manner.

Northwood Feeding Scheme

Our Northwood Feeding Scheme is an important initiative within our school to ensure that no learner goes hungry. We understand that some families and students face challenges that make it difficult to provide regular meals, and we are committed to supporting them.

Our staff work tirelessly to assist families and students who need help with meals and snacks. We believe that access to healthy and nutritious food is essential for students to focus and participate in the school day without any compromise.

We are grateful to have Mr. Wayne Usher, CEO of Peppers and Pans Catering, as the main sponsor of our Northwood Feeding Scheme. Mr. Usher and his team generously provide a home-cooked meal daily to a number of our boys, ensuring they have access to nutritious food that supports their well-being and academic success. We thank Mr. Usher and his team for their kindness and generosity.

Goals for Lives

Our 1st Team Soccer have partnered with Sport For Lives as they launch their campaign in support of Domino Babies Home. The boys also dedicate time to assist with maintenance and repairs at the Babies Home, having most recently refurbished and painted playground and play equipment.

“This soccer season we want to leave a legacy. A legacy of activating generosity.”

Help support this amazing organisation by either donating a once-off amount, or by pledging your support for each goal scored this coming season – our boys are ready!
