Northwood Soccer Evenly Matched Vs Hilton

After an excellent game last week against Kearsney, much was expected from Northwood. After 5 minutes the expectations rose as Northwood calmly put the ball into the net through Goodwin Khuzwayo . After this the game was played in midfield and neither keeper was tested due to a lot of wayward passing. The 1st half ended with Northwood leading 1-0 which was a true reflection of the half. One expected the 2nd half to move up a gear but it was like the first half with aimless passing and both teams battling to get their game going. The match really looked like it was heading for a victory for Northwood with 5 minutes left, but Hilton did not give up as they put pressure on Northwood defence and forced a corner. This was Hilton’s last chance which they took with a great header from no.10 that left the Northwood keeper stranded. The game never rose to any great heights and in the end a 1-1 draw was a true reflection as Hilton had the better of the second half.

Northwood Hosts Breakfast with John Plumtree and Friends

Northwood recently hosted a school rugby fundraising breakfast at the Durban Country Club with John Plumtree and Friends. The event was well attended with no room to spare.  John Allen was MC of the event, and kept the rugby banter flowing with many laughs and insights into the beautiful game.  Ex Sharks coach and current Hurricane’s coach, John Plumtree headed up a panel discussion which also included John Mitchell (Former All Blacks Coach and current SuperSport Presenter) and Grant Bashford, current Northwood 1st Team Coach and ex Sharks coaching assistant.  Funds raised from this event will go towards developing rugby at Northwood.  Thank you to all those that supported this fun and informative breakfast.

Northwood Prefect Tie Ceremony

Northwood Soccer Take The Win vs Kearsney

Northwood took their A game to Kearsney and right from the first whistle they dominated the game. Northwood’s passing game was very accurate and put Kearsney’s defence under pressure. Kearsney tried to play high up in their half and in the beginning they managed to catch Northwood off side on a number of occasions. Kearsney was playing a dangerous game and it was only a matter of time before Northwood caught Kearsney out.

Twice in a matter of minutes Northwood played the ball over the top for captain Nto Sibisi who calmly placed the ball past the stranded Kearsney goal keeper. Northwood did not relax and kept the pressure on and 5 minutes later Sibisi once again was in the clear and completed his hat-trick with another well placed shot.

Towards the end of the 1st half Kearsney were awarded a penalty which their captain put wide of the goal. At half time Northwood held a very comfortable 3-0 after dominating the half. Not much changed in the second half with Northwood continuing to dominate. It wasn’t long before Northwood added a 4th goal after a corner and Nkanyiso Ntombela headed the ball into the top of the net.

It was Kearsney who scored next when they were awarded a second penalty which they managed to score. The rest of the half saw Northwood having a number of shots but did not manage to score again.

The 4-1 score was a true reflection of the game as Northwood played exceptionally well.

Northwood 1st Team Soccer Victorious Vs Michaelhouse

Northwood hosted Michaelhouse and going by the results so far this season the game was going to be tight. The first 10 minutes both sides we feeling each other out and finding their feet. Northwood slowly but surely started to take control of the game with the higher percentage of possession. Northwood had numerous chances but just could not score. Northwood defended really well keeping the Michaelhouse forwards very quiet and they hardly got a shot on target. With 5 minutes to go Byron Melville had a great break down the right wing and crossed a beautiful ball across the goal month. Basler Mushangazhike nipped in between the defenders and side footed the ball into the net to give Northwood a well-deserved lead at half time. The second half was full of action but lead to no further goals and Northwood continued to defend high up the field with Michaelhouse only getting one good shot on goal which was brilliantly saved by Weston Roelofsza . Northwood had numerous chances to finish the game off but did not put the Michaelhouse keeper under enough pressure. Northwood came away with a well-deserved victory.
