The u15 Sevens rugby side from Northwood have had a brilliant season this year.
They have won all 4 tournaments that they participated in during term 3.
The first tournament was held over the Friday and Saturday, 18th and 19th September at Glenwood, where the boys were in a pool with Glenwood, Bergvlam, HS Vryheid and Ixopo.
The team won all pool games, even beating the hosts Glenwood 22-19 in the pool match. This brought them to the semi final vs. Westville, a game which they won 24-15. As fate would have it this would mean the boys went on to face the hosts Glenwood for a second time around, this time in the final. It was an exciting game that the boys managed to win 26-21. To make it even more memorable, it was the only Glenwood side that managed a victory over the infamous Grey Bloem college that our boys had just beaten… twice… at their own tournament.
Next up was the Maritzburg College festival held on Saturday the 26th August. The boys were in a pool with Kearsney B, Sarel Cilliers and Hilton. Again winning all pool games comfortably the boys went on to play the hosts, Maritzburg College in the semi final, a game they won 24-12. This led them to the final against Michaelhouse where the boys won the cup title for a second week in a row with a convincing 33-12 score line.
The third festival was hosted by Voortrekker school at Woodburn stadium. The boys were up for the challenge and dominated their pool with outstanding victories over Maritzburg College, Westville B and Sarel Cilliers. This led the boys into a semi-final against Kearsney where they won 21-19.
After a close affair the boys managed to retain their status as tournament champions and brought home another cup beating Westville 31-29.
The final weekend’s tournament was hosted by DHS, a tournament that the boys won in superb style leaving no doubt in anybody’s mind that the deserved the final cup they had won. The boys beat St Charles, Transkei Journey and Kearsney in the pool matches and faced hosts DHS in the semi where they won 34-0. This led the boys into the final against Kearsney again where the team won an exciting game of rugby 29-0.
Over all the boys won 22 games in a row.
Points for equals 764 and points against equals 199.
Over all each match average score equates to 35-9 in favour of the future Knights.
Special mention to coach Mr Dean Sibson who guided the boys to being extremely humble and diligent throughout the campaign.
Another stand out mention must go to captain Mnqobi Shoba who kept the boys focused week in and week out at training and during the tournaments.
