Northwood Top Hockey School

The Northwood 1st hockey team rounded off a fantastic indoor season when they beat rivals Westville 5 – 4 in a hard fought final. The match was of the highest standard and both teams played fantastic hockey. It was however Northwood’s day as they showed real character and determination to come out on top.

The first half started with great intensity and Westville lead 3 – 2 just before the break before John McAlery scored on the stroke of half time to give Northwood the momentum going into the second half. Northwood came out the strongest in the second half scoring twice to give themselves a two goal cushion. Westville managed to pull one back but it wasn’t enough to stop Northwood taking the title.

Northwood’s road to the final saw them play seven pool games, a semi-final and final with eight wins and one loss which was ironically at the hands of Westville in the pool phase. The semi-final was an intense match against the talented Glenwood team in which Northwood were just too strong, coming out 5 – 3 winners.

During the course of the season the team scored an amazing 68 goals whilst only conceding 24.

This capped off a fantastic year for the Northwood 1st hockey team after an outdoor season which was highlighted by being undefeated at the annual Founders Festival, losing only one match at home during the league and winning the annual KZN Schools night league.

Congratulations to all the Northwood hockey teams on a fantastic season.
