The Northwood 1st hockey team claimed a solid 2 – 0 victory against a hard working Westville team on Friday night.
The match was played at a high tempo with Northwood creating most of the chances. Westville’s only chance of the first half came through a penalty corner which was run down by the Northwood first wave Dale van der Merwe. The teams went into the half time break deadlocked at 0 – 0.
The second half saw Northwood build on their momentum of the first half and they finally managed to break down the Westville defence when a brilliant pass from Tylo Remke found Matthew de Sousa in space who drew the goal keeper and played the ball to Matthew Robinson who made no mistake with a composed finish.
Westville created their second penalty corner of the game but the flick missed the target. Northwood extended their lead late in the half when Steve McManus scored from a penalty corner rebound. Northwood controlled the remainder of the half to clinch the victory.
