Northwood played DHS at the inaugural Toyota Schools Festival at Kings Park Stadium last night. The game turned out to be a very close encounter with both sides playing attractive running rugby. In the first ten minute DHS’ right wing ran in under the post only to drop the ball, much to the dismay of their supporters. This spurred Northwood on as they worked their way into the DHS half and were awarded a penalty with Sassa Makhanya converting the kick to go 3-0 up, a score which they held on to until half time.
Northwood started the second half by putting DHS under pressure which paid off. After numerous drives and some good work, Thabo Thabethe scored and Northwood went up 8-0. DHS then kicked a penalty over and put Northwood under pressure, especially in the last 5 minutes. Our defence held and we were victorious with a score of 8 – 3.
Congratulations to Gareth Murran who was named Man of the Match.
The support for the 1st XV was brilliant with over 150 boys attending the match, even the stadium announcer congratulated the boys on their spirit. WELL DONE BOYS!
